COMMUNITY COUNCILS
Born out of an agreement with the Wilmington Learning Collaborative, nine of the Community Schools formed a Community Council to give parents, caregivers, and community members a voice to communicate with the school.
Community Councils review the academic performance of their school, provide input on curriculum, evaluate after school and summer program providers, and give feedback about school policies. Families have an opportunity to raise questions and concerns directly to the school administration in a positive and productive manner.
Community Councils are different from PTOs and PTAs in that they do not fundraise or plan big social events for the school. Their goal is long-range planning with effects that can stretch years beyond when their child is a student at the school.

School-Based Community Council Meetings
Each school meets regularly throughout the school year and once or twice over the summer break to ensure continuous communication between the families, community members, and school administration. See your school's schedule below:

Quarterly All-City Community Council Retreats
We gather all nine of the Community Councils together four times a year at one of our Community Schools for a half-day retreat. These retreats are a great opportunity to meet council members from other schools, talk about issues that you have in common with other schools and that are unique to your school, as well as hear inspiring and informative speakers talk about a variety of topics.
Community Council Member Trainings
In order to help develop the skills of our Community Council members and make the best use of everyone’s time at our meetings, we are excited to offer our first round of Community Council Member Trainings!
