Children & Families First is pleased to announce the addition of five new members to its Board of Directors. Members who were elected at the agency’s January 19, 2010 Annual Meeting include:
Don C. Brown is Corporate Counsel with E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company in Wilmington, DE where he has practiced since 1999. Originally from Wilmington, he is a graduate of Princeton University and the George Washington University's National Law Center. Don resides in Wilmington with his wife, Lynne Howard. He is active in the Delaware State Bar Association, ABA, Association of Corporate Counsel, minority and corporate counsel, community, and not-for profit activities. He has served on numerous boards and commissions with a focus on issues related to affordable housing and legal services, transportation, healthcare, mentoring, politics, and childcare.
Nancy Karibjanian is a dedicated journalist who has been the face of Delaware television news for more than two decades. Nancy is best is known as the anchor for WHYY’s nightly news program “Delaware Tonight”. In her 24-year tenure with WHYY, she helped reshape local news to a mix of daily news and in-depth coverage of first state issues. Nancy’s broadcasting career has included anchoring, reporting, producing and management of a news staff. She has covered numerous elections, hosted political debates, covered Presidential visits, and most recently the 2008 Vice-Presidential Debate. Nancy graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Communications where she is now an Adjunct Professor teaching Field Production for Television News. Nancy, her husband Joe, and their three children, JJ, Amanda, and Maggie, live in North Wilmington.
Veronica E. Oney is a Financial Aid Officer with Delaware Technical & Community College, where she has been employed for over ten years. Veronica is a graduate of Wilmington College, where she received her BS in Human Resource Management and her Masters of Education in School Counseling. Veronica is active in various professional and community organizations including the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Sussex Technical High School Advisory Committee. Veronica resides in Seaford.
Brian Pettijohn is a member of the Georgetown Town Council, a position he has held since 2008. Brian began his work in politics in 1988, when he began working on Congressman Mike Castle’s re-election campaign for Governor. While on Council, Brian has encouraged financial responsibility, effective use of resources and use of technological tools to improve efficiency in town operations. Brian is a native of Sussex County and a graduate of the University of Delaware.
Janice Rowe Tigani, Esq. is Deputy Attorney General for the State of Delaware Department of Justice where she is responsible for the representation of the Division of Child Support Enforcement, administrative representation of the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families, and other agencies and boards as assigned. Ms. Tigani is a member of the Delaware State Bar Association and the Melson Arsht Inn of Court and a volunteer for a variety of nonprofit organizations. She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and the Villanova University School of Law and currently resides in Wilmington.
Children & Families First, a private non-profit social service agency, helps families develop solutions to meet challenges and embrace opportunities. Services include parent education, child and elder care resource and referral services, foster care, adoption, welfare to work programs, programs to increase child care quality and availability, home-based case management, truancy prevention, a youth residential treatment center, as well as teen pregnancy prevention and infant mortality prevention programs. Programming is provided out of seven offices located throughout Delaware as well as in clients’ homes, schools, and other community locations. Over 40,000 individuals benefited from services statewide in 2008. Children & Families First is a member of the United Way of Delaware and the Alliance for Children & Families and is accredited by COA (Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children).
